According to the Kyunghyang Shinmun, Elon Musk reshared a Taegeukgi-themed video from Tesla Korea on X on Thursday, US time. Tesla kept the top spot for a ninth straight month in October with 9,165 registrations and a 29.5 percent share of imported cars.
According to the Kyunghyang Shinmun, Tesla CEO Elon Musk reshared a post from the Tesla Korea account on his X account on Thursday, US time. The post was a composite video of a waving Taegeukgi, the South Korean flag, with Tesla's T logo at its center. It celebrated Tesla beating Mercedes-Benz and BMW to hold the top spot in Korea's imported car market.

Citing data from the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association, the Kyunghyang Shinmun reported that Tesla registered 9,165 vehicles in Korea in October, up 110.7 percent from a year earlier. Its share of imported passenger car registrations was 29.5 percent. Its run at No. 1 began in February and now stands at nine consecutive months.
There was a decline behind the growth, however. October registrations fell 25.9 percent from September, and a streak of more than 10,000 registrations a month that began in March ended. Registrations from January to October come to just under 100,000. A related article cited by the paper said cumulative imported-car registrations this year reached 310,846, with Tesla accounting for about 31.6 percent.
Can Tesla Hit 100,000 for the Year?
The same related article said it would be a first for a single import brand to exceed 100,000 units in a year. The previous benchmark was Mercedes-Benz topping 80,000 in 2022. With the year-to-date total close to 100,000, a record is being discussed, but how November and December sales will turn out has not been confirmed.
This is not the first time Musk has shared a Korea-related post. According to the Kyunghyang Shinmun, he shared a similar one in June, when the Model Y topped monthly sales. The only model named in the article is the Model Y, and this paper could not confirm a model-by-model breakdown of the October figures.
Even with growth of more than double the year-earlier level, the fall from the previous month suggests monthly registrations can swing with supply and delivery schedules. Whether Tesla's strong showing in Korea continues will be answered by the year-end tally.
