Immigration agency: rest and meals arranged in the airport restricted zone
The National Immigration Agency said it has consulted the relevant agencies and will handle the matter appropriately under existing mechanisms. It has arranged a place inside the airport's restricted zone for him to rest and eat, but he cannot move about freely.
Cheng said he hopes to receive short-term humanitarian protection in Taiwan to avoid a second round of political persecution. The position of Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council is not mentioned in the reporting we checked.
We were also unable to confirm any official Chinese statement. The details of the sentence and his background that Cheng describes await confirmation from the parties involved, and Taiwan's final course of action has not yet been announced.
