대만 측 대응과 앞선 활동

국방부는 중국군이 이를 ‘합동 전비 경계순찰’이라 규정하나 실제로는 대만 주변 공해와 공역을 교란하는 행위라고 밝혔다. 합동 정보·감시·정찰 수단으로 동향을 감시하고, 임무기와 함정, 지상 배치 미사일 체계로 대응했다고 설명했다. 함정의 척수와 종류는 보도에 나와 있지 않다.

According to the MND release as reported by United Daily News, the activity began around 1:15 p.m. on the 31st. The 22 sorties included J-10 and J-16 fighters, KJ-500 early warning aircraft, a Y-20 tanker-type aircraft and drones, and 18 crossed the median line and its extension into airspace north, central and southwest of Taiwan and the western Pacific.

Taiwan's response and earlier activity

The MND said the PLA describes it as a ‘joint combat readiness patrol’ but that it in fact disturbs the waters and airspace around Taiwan. It said it monitored with joint intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets and responded with mission aircraft, ships and land-based missile systems. The report does not give the number or type of ships.

The ministry said the activity followed an October 20 joint combat readiness patrol and ‘far-seas long-voyage’ exercise. Beijing has generally described its activity around Taiwan as legitimate training, but its official position on this event could not be confirmed.

The report relies on one side's statement. Some voices in the region and beyond say both sides should keep communication channels open so military tension does not turn into needless miscalculation, but whether any further contact took place on this occasion was not confirmed.
