Anthropic, the US AI company behind Claude, filed on October 26 (US time) for an initial public offering on the Nasdaq and released its prospectus. The size and timing have not been fixed, and market watchers expect it could raise more than 100 billion dollars.
South Korea's Kyunghyang Shinmun reported late on October 26 that Anthropic had filed for a Nasdaq IPO. Citing the New York Times, it said the company made its prospectus public that day, and that the document includes a line saying the company believes AI is one of the most consequential technologies in human history.

Kyunghyang said analysts expect proceeds above 100 billion dollars, but that is a market estimate rather than a figure from the company. The ticker, the underwriters and the actual listing date were not given in that report and could not be confirmed by this newspaper.
Valuation and the race for the biggest IPO
According to the New York Times as relayed by Kyunghyang, Anthropic was valued at 900 billion dollars in May, ahead of OpenAI. A raise above 100 billion dollars could put its valuation near 2 trillion dollars and might make it the largest IPO ever, ahead of SpaceX, which listed in June.
The benchmark SpaceX figure differs by outlet. Kyunghyang put it at 75 billion dollars at the offering price, while Taiwan's United Daily News reported 85.7 billion dollars. The gap may reflect different bases or whether over-allotment is counted, but which is correct was not confirmed in our reporting.
Market reaction and risks
United Daily News reported that the filing lifted chip and AI-related shares in early US trading: Nvidia rose 1.6 percent, Micron 1 percent and Broadcom 0.9 percent, while the Dow gained 212 points, or 0.4 percent, and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq each rose 0.3 percent. The Philadelphia semiconductor index climbed more than 1 percent.
Risks remain. Kyunghyang noted that smart-ring maker Oura and SoftBank unit SB Energy have postponed listings amid market uncertainty, and that worries are growing over whether AI spending will pay off. How Anthropic sets its timetable amid mixed enthusiasm and caution will be the key question.
