Salmon farmed with Kunlun Mountain snowmelt at Shimen Reservoir in Xinjiang's Tiemenguan have moved from trial farming to scaled production, and some are now being harvested.
According to an October 17 report relaying CCTV Finance, salmon farmed at Shimen Reservoir in Nantun Town, Tiemenguan, Xinjiang, have entered scaled-up production. The reservoir lies in a mountain valley on the northern foothills of the Kunlun Mountains, and some fish have already been caught and brought to market.
광고 문의 · 300×250About 130,000 salmon are currently being raised, averaging 2 to 3 kilograms each. At the usual price of 80 yuan per kilogram, the expected output value exceeds 25 million yuan. The report did not name the operating company, referring only to a farming base.
Snowmelt Water and Low-Density Farming
The water comes from Kunlun snow and ice melt, and the temperature stays below 18 degrees Celsius year-round. Salmon prefer cold water, making temperature a key condition. The report said water tests met drinking-water standards.
The farm uses ecological net cages and low stocking density, with precise feeding and waste-collection systems installed in the cages. Fish waste and leftover feed are collected regularly and processed into organic fertilizer to limit the impact on the reservoir ecosystem.
An Industry Chain Still Taking Shape
The report said an industry chain combining farming, processing and sales is gradually forming locally, but it gave no details on sales channels or customers. Xinjiang already has salmon farms using cold-water resources around the Tianshan; this case was presented as a scale-up using a Kunlun water source.
The report gave no figures on harvest volume, mortality, feed efficiency or profitability. The 25-million-yuan estimate rests on average weight and the usual price, so actual revenue will depend on market prices and harvest timing.
