The Liberty Times reported on October 14 that the White House has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle, 57, the US ambassador to Greece, to resign amid allegations of bribery. Guilfoyle is a former Fox News host and is known as a former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr. The report says new press secretary Katie Zacharia said at her first briefing that the administration had asked Guilfoyle to step down.
광고 문의 · 300×250The allegations stem from reporting by the Wall Street Journal. As cited by the Liberty Times, the Journal reported that shortly before her July 2025 Senate confirmation hearing, Guilfoyle asked Trump supporter Eric Deters to pay off about $100,000 of her personal credit card debt. Citing audio recordings and other records, the Journal also reported that she boasted about luxury trips paid for by a Greek businessman. These are the Journal's reports, not legally established facts.
The Liberty Times also cited NBC News as reporting, from two people familiar with the matter, that the State Department's Office of Inspector General is investigating Guilfoyle. The scope and results of that review have not been made public, and the report did not say whether any criminal complaint or charge exists; we could not confirm either.
In a post on X, Guilfoyle said the allegations are false and that she will vigorously defend her name, reputation and integrity. She suggested her time as ambassador may be ending but said her commitment to Trump and the 'America First' movement would not change. Trump later said she was doing a good job but that he did not like the reporting, the Liberty Times said.
The matter raises two issues together: personal finances during the ambassadorial vetting process, and ties to a foreign businessman. With the inspector general's review still under way, whether she resigns and whether the claims hold up will depend on what is eventually disclosed. Under the presumption of innocence, the allegations and her denial stand side by side at this stage.
