A survey found Taiwan's hiring outlook for the fourth quarter improved on the previous quarter, as companies' net employment expectations rose.

The survey asks firms whether they expect to add, cut or maintain staff over the coming three months and converts the difference into an index. It shows direction rather than the absolute scale of hiring.

What drove it

Information technology, finance and property reported relatively strong hiring intentions, read as a sign that capital spending tied to semiconductors and demand from data centres continues to sustain demand for staff.

Consumer goods and parts of manufacturing were more cautious, indicating that the pace of recovery in export orders differs by sector.

How to read the index

Hiring outlook indices do not necessarily match actual hiring. Corporate plans shift with external conditions during the quarter, and the adjustment is larger in periods of significant tariff or exchange-rate movement.

The measure draws attention nonetheless because it signals direction earlier than unemployment, a lagging indicator. When hiring intentions turn, employment statistics often follow several quarters later.

Taiwan's labour authorities issued no separate official forecast. Private surveys and official statistics use different samples and methods, so the figures are not directly comparable.
