The stalking law allows interim measures such as bans on approach and contact, with violations punishable separately.

The difficulty is that means of physically preventing approach are limited. Orders are issued on paper, but blocking the moment of violation in real time is hard.

Supplementary measures such as electronic monitoring and referral to victim protection facilities have therefore been discussed, though debate continues over the criteria for their use and concerns about rights.

The practical advice is to keep records. Logging the time and content of attempted contact provides grounds for extending interim measures and for sentencing decisions.
