삼성, 첫 AI 안경 ‘인텔리전트 아이웨어’ 공개… “일반 안경과 디자인 차이 없다”

삼성전자가 첫 인공지능 안경 ‘인텔리전트 아이웨어’를 공개했다. 겉모습은 보통 안경과 거의 구분되지 않으면서도, 음성으로 인공지능 비서를 부르고 시야에 정보를 띄우는 스마트 기기다.

삼성은 이날 갤럭시 신제품 공개 행사에서 폴더블폰 신작과 함께 이 안경을 선보였다. 회사 측은 “착용감과 디자인을 일반 안경 수준으로 낮추는 데 집중했다”고 밝혔다.

안경에는 카메라와 마이크, 소형 스피커가 들어가 사용자가 보고 듣는 상황을 인공지능이 인식하고, 통역·길안내·메모 같은 기능을 지원한다. 스마트폰과 연동해 알림을 확인할 수도 있다.

업계는 삼성의 진입으로 애플·메타 등이 경쟁 중인 스마트 안경 시장이 한층 뜨거워질 것으로 본다. 관건은 배터리 지속시간과 개인정보 보호, 그리고 실제 착용을 부담스럽지 않게 만드는 무게다.

삼성은 출시 시점과 국가별 가격을 추후 공개하기로 했다. 초기에는 통역·접근성 보조 같은 실용 기능을 앞세워 수요를 넓힐 계획이다.

재한 화인 이용자에게는 실시간 통역 기능이 특히 관심을 끈다. 한국어·중국어 사이의 즉석 통역이 매끄럽게 작동한다면 생활·업무 현장에서 유용할 수 있다.

다만 카메라가 달린 안경은 촬영·녹음 우려도 함께 불러온다. 삼성은 촬영 시 표시등이 켜지는 등 안전장치를 뒀다고 설명했다.

Samsung showed the glasses alongside its new foldable phone at a Galaxy launch event, saying it focused on bringing the fit and design down to the level of regular glasses.

The glasses house a camera, microphone and tiny speaker so the AI can recognize what the user sees and hears, supporting translation, navigation and note-taking, and can link to a phone to check notifications.

The industry expects Samsung's entry to heat up a smart-glasses market already contested by Apple and Meta. The keys are battery life, privacy protection and a weight light enough to wear without strain.

Samsung said it would announce the release date and country pricing later, planning to broaden demand first through practical features such as translation and accessibility aids.

For Chinese users in Korea, the real-time translation feature draws particular interest. If instant Korean-Chinese interpretation works smoothly, it could prove useful in daily life and business.

Still, camera-equipped glasses raise concerns about filming and recording. Samsung said it had built in safeguards such as an indicator light that turns on while recording.
