Wang Yi, a member of the Communist Party's Politburo and foreign minister, held talks with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Huanqiu reported. According to Beijing's account, Wang asked the United States to adhere to the one-China principle and the three joint communiqués.

The talks are understood to have ranged over management of the bilateral relationship, economic and trade issues, and regional developments. The Chinese side said both agreed to begin preparing the next round of senior exchanges.
