After the UK government forcibly nationalized British Steel, a Chinese company issued statements on two consecutive days demanding compensation, Huanqiu reported, as a dispute over ownership and payment began in earnest.

British Steel is a symbolic firm of the UK steel industry, run in recent years by a Chinese owner. London is said to have intervened to preserve jobs and industrial base, while the owner asserts a violation of property rights.

Cases pitting foreign investment against national security and industrial policy are rising worldwide. Debate over states' power to intervene in core industries, investor protection and compensation standards is at issue here too.
