Four workers fell with a steel beam at TSMC's Nanzi construction site in Kaohsiung on the 20th. The Southern Taiwan Science Park Administration said three died and one is seriously hurt; the cause is under investigation.
According to United Daily News, the accident happened around 4 p.m. on the 20th at the F22 P4 construction project at TSMC's Nanzi plant in Kaohsiung. A bolt reportedly snapped while a steel frame was being hoisted into place, and the beam fell, taking four male workers on it down from height.

Official response and TSMC's position
Labor inspectors were sent to the site, which was ordered to stop work and be preserved. Authorities are to check whether the lifting work and safety measures met regulations, and penalties will follow if occupational safety laws were violated.
TSMC said the area falls within a contractor's scope of work. The company halted related construction on its own and said its site safety team is cooperating with the authorities.
What remains unconfirmed
No official cause has been set. The broken-bolt account is a reported suspicion, and one outlet's headline says the workers were welding, which conflicts with the hoisting account. The victims' identities, employers and the height of the fall have not been confirmed.
With semiconductor expansion projects moving ahead across Taiwan, safety in high-altitude site work has repeatedly drawn attention. The findings may also bear on where responsibility for contractor management lies.
