A summit between the European Union and Gulf states has been postponed because of Houthi attacks, Korea's Kyunghyang Shinmun reported on October 15.
In an article headlined that Houthi attacks forced the EU to postpone a summit with Gulf states, Kyunghyang Shinmun said on October 15 that the leaders' meeting the two sides had been pursuing was delayed. What we could confirm is limited to that headline: the new date, the body that announced the delay and the exact nature of the attacks were not verified.
광고 문의 · 300×250It is therefore unconfirmed which Gulf state was attacked and how, and when the summit has been pushed to. We relay this on the basis of a single outlet and will update after further checks.
The EU's concern over Gulf security
It is, however, publicly documented that the EU has repeatedly condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia this year. Brussels Times and India's UNI news agency, among others, reported that the EU denounced Houthi strikes on the kingdom and urged an end to hostilities. Which incident bears directly on this postponement has not been confirmed.
EU and Gulf officials were also reported to have held talks on the Middle East war in March this year. High-level calendars are often disrupted when the regional situation deteriorates.
Other regional news the same day
Kyunghyang also reported that day that South Korea's Cheonghae naval unit is widening its operating area to the Gulf of Oman and sending one patrol aircraft. Whether this relates to the summit delay cannot be told from the headline, so we draw no link.
Governments in Europe and Asia continue to adjust their diplomatic and military responses as the maritime and regional security picture shifts. We will report the summit's new date and the Houthi side's position once confirmed.
