A man who boarded a train in Taiwan carrying a blade and threatened to harm people has been arrested. Police activated an emergency mobilization after confirming the threat.

The man was identified as having boarded a Taiwan Railway train at Keelung. Police adjusted deployments along the route and boarded the train at Zhongli Station to detain him.

No passengers were reported harmed during the arrest. Police are examining his belongings and investigating the circumstances of the threat.

Railways are open facilities where pre-boarding baggage checks are not standard, so advance reporting, patrols and camera monitoring serve as the main responses.

Several countries have recently reviewed their procedures for knife incidents on public transport, with simplified crew reporting and standby personnel at stations cited as common items.

For threats made in advance, the timing of the report is seen as decisive, since a moving train requires response plans to be redrawn station by station.
