동남아시아에서 온라인 불법 도박이 초국가적 조직범죄의 가장 빠르게 커지는 축으로 떠올랐다는 유엔의 분석이 나왔다. 특히 청년층을 겨냥해 피해가 확산되고 있다.

유엔 마약범죄사무소(UNODC)에 따르면 동남아의 온라인 불법 도박은 초국가적 조직범죄에서 ‘가장 규모가 크고 빠르게 성장하는 영역’ 중 하나가 됐으며, 갈수록 젊은 층을 표적으로 삼고 있다.

온라인 도박은 국경을 넘어 운영되며 사기·자금세탁·인신매매 등 다른 범죄와 얽혀 있다. 피해가 한 나라에 머물지 않아 국제 공조가 필수적이다.

특히 젊은 세대는 스마트폰과 온라인 환경에 익숙해 도박성 콘텐츠에 쉽게 노출된다. 중독은 재정 파탄과 정신 건강 악화로 이어질 수 있어 예방과 교육이 중요하다.

각국은 불법 사이트 차단, 자금 흐름 추적, 국제 수사 공조로 대응하고 있다. 그러나 기술의 발전 속도를 규제가 따라가기 어렵다는 점이 과제로 지적된다.

동남아는 화인 인구가 밀집한 지역으로, 이 문제는 화인 사회의 안전과도 직결된다. 특히 취업 사기와 연계된 도박 조직 피해에 대한 경각심이 필요하다. 이는 민감한 주제로, 도박 문제로 어려움을 겪고 있다면 전문 상담과 지원을 받는 것이 도움이 된다.
