Domestic small and mid-size companies are releasing precision laser rangefinders in the 100,000-won price bracket, challenging the Chinese low-cost products that have long dominated the market.
The laser-rangefinder market—widely used on construction, surveying, and facility sites—has seen affordable Chinese imports capture a substantial share of demand. Recently, some Korean smaller firms have been launching products at around 100,000 won that deliver millimeter-level precision, seeking to reshape the market. The Chosun Ilbo reported on the trend.

These companies are differentiating by developing core optical components and measurement algorithms in-house, reducing unit costs while maintaining professional-grade measuring precision. Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone-app compatibility, and compact lightweight design are cited as field-convenience advantages.
Improved manufacturing-cost management, against a backdrop of global supply-chain restructuring and expanded domestic-component sourcing, is also seen as having boosted price competitiveness. Some observers counsel caution, noting that overtaking the economies of scale Chinese manufacturers have built over many years is not easily done in the short term.
Surveying and construction industry experts say that value-for-price and after-sales service reliability will be the key to Korean products establishing themselves. Some companies have also outlined plans to expand into export markets such as Southeast Asia and the Middle East after securing a domestic demand base.
