According to Huanqiu, Dunhuang in Gansu province—anchored by the Mogao Caves—is a stronghold of Silk Road culture, and is drawing attention as an 'old city with new style' as new culture-tourism facilities are added. Digital exhibits and experiential content complement traditional cave viewing.

Balancing preservation and experience
In the desert climate, the cave murals are vulnerable to light, humidity and crowds. Dunhuang has therefore chosen to protect physical viewing while expanding content through high-resolution digital imagery and experiential displays. The new landmark reads as a further reinforcement of that balance.
With the summer peak overlapping holidays such as the Dragon Boat break, dispersal-style facilities are expected to ease congestion and improve the quality of the visit during periods of heavy domestic and international tourism.

The Silk Road and Dunhuang are part of the shared cultural memory of Chinese communities worldwide. For Chinese families in Korea, Dunhuang is regarded as a symbolic place linking them to their 'roots.' Huanqiu noted the new landmark is becoming a bridge between tradition and modern technology.
